WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men's lacrosse fell at no. 16/15 Army West Point, 12-5.
Will Spangenberg picked up three points with two goals and one assist and
Jonathan Tesoro made a season-high 13 saves against the Black Knights.
Dan O'Connell picked up three ground balls to become the sole owner of the program's all-time career ground balls record at 222.
Army jumped out to a four goal lead in the first quarter before Holy Cross was able to get on the board.
Dean DiNanno started the Crusaders' scoring followed by a man-up goal from
Justin Lynskey (4:59), and a goal from
Connor Waldron (2:57). Holy Cross closed the gap to trail by just one after the first quarter, 4-3.
Through the second and third quarter, the scoring belonged entirely to the Black Knights. Army took a 7-3 lead at the half and piled on two more goals in the third quarter to go ahead, 9-3.
After a 10
th goal from Army, Spangenberg scored to stop the Black Knights six-goal run. With 18 seconds to play, Spangenberg tallied his second of the day with help from Waldron to finalize the game at 12-5.
CRUSADER LEADERS:
- Phillip Turner caused six turnovers and picked up five ground balls, for a career-high in both categories.
- Chris Conlin picked up nine ground balls to lead Holy Cross.
- Dan O'Connell won 9-14 faceoffs (.642).
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Army outshot Holy Cross, 28-39.
- The Crusaders went 13-24 on the clear while the Black Knights went 16-25.
