Men's hockey outshoots, falls to Sacred Heart

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team lost to Sacred Heart 2-1 Friday night at the Hart Center.

The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead in the first period and outshot the Pioneers 39-28 on the night, but Sacred Heart rallied in the second period to take the lead and held on for the remainder.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1-0 HC (1st, 11:56, EV): Ryan Leibold flung the puck out of a corner towards the net and it somehow snuck by the goalie at a tough angle. Alex Peterson and Jack Robilotti registered assists on the play.
1-1 SHU (2nd, 3:37, EV): Braeden Tuck sent the puck across the crease to a waiting Ryan Steele on the other side who tipped it home.
2-1 SHU (2nd, 9:15, PP): The Pioneers scored the game-winner on the power play with a little tic tac toe.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Peterson's assist gives him four on the year for the team lead in both assists and points, also four. Robilotti's assist on the same play was the first of his collegiate career.
  • Erik Gordon made 26 saves in goal.
