DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore
Mary Edmonds and freshman
Bryn Saarela both scored goals, but the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was defeated by New Hampshire 6-2 at the Whittemore Center. The Crusaders fall to 2-5 on the season with the loss, while the Wildcats improve to 3-6 overall.
After a scoreless first period, New Hampshire scored four times in the second to pull in front. Chavonne Truter scored the first and fourth goals of the game for the Wildcats, while Avery Myers and Lindsey Dumond also found the net.
New Hampshire added two goals from Nicole Kelly early in the third period to increase its lead to 6-0. With less than two minutes left to play, freshman
Millie Sirum stole the puck behind the net and found Edmonds all alone out front for her second goal of the season. Just 18 seconds later, freshman
Vaia Graves sent the puck to sophomore
Kailey Langefels at the blue line, and Langefels' shot was tipped into the goal by Saarela to conclude the scoring.
Ava Boutilier picked up the win for the Wildcats while making 11 saves. Junior
Jada Brenon and senior
Julia Pelletier shard time in goal for the Crusaders, combining for 19 saves.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Wildcats held a 36-23 advantage in total shots, including a 25-13 edge in shots on goal.
- Faceoffs were nearly even, with New Hampshire posting a narrow 28-27 advantage.
