WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team tied Vermont, 0-0, Sunday afternoon at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
The Crusaders outshot the Catamounts 18-12, 7-3 on goal, and earned 11 corners to the visitors' five. Holy Cross spread its shots around with no player taking more than three. Samantha Peters put the most on net with two. Sophia Lettieri wasn't tested much, with the defense only allowing three shots on goal, but she was solid when she had to be.
In the 36th minute, Lexi Ansaldi had the defense beat as she sent a shot on goal from the left side of the box, but the Vermont goalkeeper made an impressive save to keep the game scoreless going into the half.
The second half and overtime were filled with scoring chances. In the 55th minute, the Catamounts were awarded a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. UVM's Ella Bankert took a shot that would have gone in, had it not been for Lettieri's fingertips that poked it over the crossbar. In the 94th minute, a loose ball in the Vermont box found the feet of Bridgette Dwyer who sent it on goal, but a dive from Vermont's goalie denied her. Then, a minute later, Jenna Barnes found herself one-on-one in the penalty box, but the Vermont net minder came up big again.
