KINGSTON, R.I. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team tied the University of Rhode Island, 1-1, Thursday night at the URI Soccer Complex. The Crusaders move to 1-2-3 on the year and the Rams to 3-1-2.
Holy Cross got on the board first, in just the second minute of the game when Olivia Ferrara used a pass from Kelly Crowley to beat the Rhode Island keeper and give the Crusaders the lead. The Rams answered 13 minutes later with a goal of their own to tie things at one.
That's how it would stay for the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods. Rhode Island put 10 shots on goal throughout the game, but Sophia Lettieri was strong, stopping nine of them.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Ferrara's goal is her first of the season.
- Lettieri's nine saves are a season high and the most she has had in a game since she stopped 11 shots on Oct. 9 of last season against Dartmouth.
UP NEXT:
The Crusaders will play their final non-conference game of the season this Sunday, Sept. 15 at 3:05 p.m. at home against St. Francis Brooklyn.
