WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team fell in its season opener, 3-0, to California Baptist University Thursday evening in Narco, Calif.
The Lancers scored in the eighth minute and added two more goals in the second half. The Crusaders put a shot of their own on goal shortly after they conceded the first score, but Cal Baptist was ready and grabbed the save. Holy Cross would register five more shots in the first half, but none found the back of the net.
In the second half, the Crusaders managed a few more quality looks, including one that went off the crossbar, but the Lancer defense stood tough.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Crusaders were outshot, 18-12, with the Lancers also holding the advantage in shots on goal, 5-4
- Junior Sydney Fisher and sophomore Olivia Ferrara tied for a team-high three shots
- Possession was fairly even with Cal Baptist just edging out Holy Cross at 52%
- The Crusaders ended the game with just one corner to the Lancers' six
