WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team lost to Monmouth, 5-0, Sunday afternoon in its final game of the Madeira Beach Invitational.
The Crusader's offense was stymied by Hawks pitcher, Alyssa Irons, who went the full 7.0 innings only allowing three hits. Bella Jankowski, Taylor Wahler, and Erin Bengston each went 1-for-3 with singles. Alexandra Held pitched for Holy Cross, giving up five runs on seven hits, but striking out 10.
Monmouth did its damage in the third and fifth innings with a two-run home run in the third and back-to-back doubles followed by a second two-run homer in the fifth.
Holy Cross' best chance came in the fourth inning when Wahler and Bengston each singled, but Irons got Janksowski to ground out to third to end the threat.
