Men’s hockey earns two league points with shootout victory over RIT

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team captured two Atlantic Hockey points with a shootout victory at RIT on Nov. 2, 4-3. Two senior defensemen tallied goals in the Crusaders regulation tie while Conner Jean scored his team-best fourth goal of the season and Jake Pappalardo tallied the shootout game-winner. 
 
After the mid-point of the opening period, RIT scored two goals in two minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. The Crusaders continued to pressure and scored on their first power play of the game from Dalton Skelly.
 
The Crusaders and Tigers played to a scoreless second period and Matt Radomsky turned aside nine shots for a two period total of 18. The Crusaders held the two-period shot advantage, 23-20.
 
Will Brophy sparked the Crusaders' third period scoring nearly six minutes into the frame and Conner Jean put Holy Cross ahead with under ten minutes to play in regulation. With six skaters, RIT evened the game with one minute to play to send the game to overtime.
 
With the new Atlantic Hockey rules after 65 minutes of a 3-3 tie, each team picked up one league point. Matt Radomsky made two shoot-out saves and Jake Pappalardo deked past RIT's Logan Drackett to give the Crusaders the extra league point on the road and the shootout victory. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
1-0 RIT | 1st – 12:02 EV: Jake Joffee scored from the top of the crease as he rushed in on Radomsky.
2-0 RIT | 1st – 13:59 EV: Will Calverley scored on the back door after receiving a cross-crease pass on a two-on-one.
2-1 HC | 1st – 18:43 PP: Anthony Vincent and Logan Ferguson worked the puck behind the net and along the boards before Dalton Skelly collected it and fired from the point through traffic.
2-2 HC | 3rd – 5:55 EV: Off the faceoff, Logan Milliken sent the puck along the boards to Ryan Leibold below the net in the far corner. Leibold found Will Brophy sneaking into the slot for a one-time shot to the near post.
3-2 HC | 3rd – 11:45 EV: Neil Robinson won the puck at the faceoff dot and moved it up to Skelly. Off the half wall Skelly deked two defenders and found Conner Jean in the high slot for a quick shot to the upper third of the net.
3-3 RIT | 3rd - 18:54 EA: With six attackers, RIT scored on the back post from Shawn Cameron.

  • Neil Robinson extended his assist streak to four games.
  • Dalton Skelly tied a career high with two points.
  • Matt Radomsky made 25 saves and added two shootout stops.
  • Conner Jean tallied goals in both games against the Tigers to lead the team with four.
