LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Bucknell, 2-1, Satruday afternoon in Pennsylvania. Despite the loss, the Crusaders will advance to the Patriot League Tournament as the four-seed.
The Crusaders (6-11, 2-4 PL) ended up tied with Boston University and Lehigh at 2-4 in league play, but Holy Cross owns the tiebreaker and will advance to the postseason for the third time in four years.
The Bison took the lead today in just the third minute of action of a Leah Fogelsanger goal. They doubled their lead twenty minutes later as it was Fogelsanger again.
Holy Cross would fight back when
Madeline Alderfer linked up with
Minke Koomen on a penalty corner and Koomen was able to tip it home. The teams would go into the half with Bucknell up, 2-1.
That's where the score would stay the rest of the game, despite a last second chance for the Crusaders that saw
Caitlin Little's shot sail high.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Koomen and Alderfer have been getting it done all year for the Crusaders as they finish the regular season first and second on the team in points at 21 and 12 respectively. Koomen leads the team with nine goals and Alderfer in assists at eight.
