WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Holy Cross field hockey team lost to American, 5-1, Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Tournament. The Crusaders end their season at 6-12.
The top-seeded Eagles got off to a fast start as Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year Noor Coenen scored two goals in the first quarter. Coenen added her third of the game in the second frame to give American a 3-0 lead headed into the half.
Holy Cross opened the third quarter by applying some pressure and maintaining more possession in their offensive half than they were able to in the first two quarters. Seven minutes into the quarter the Crusaders earned their first and only corner of the game.
Madeline Alderfer connected with
Kristen Weber who redirected the pall past American's Fiona Minter in goal to cut the Eagles' lead to 3-1.
American would withstand the rest of the Crusaders' pressure and add two more goals in the fourth to secure the win.
The Eagles will await the winner of the Bucknell and Lafayette game to see who they will take on in the finals. The Patriot League championship game will be at American this Sunday, Nov. 10 at 12:05 p.m.
