WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated, 5-1, by Vermont in the team's final non-conference game of the season.
Max Krause netted the Crusaders' lone goal.
The Catamounts opened the scoring in the 29
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. In under three minutes, Vermont extended their lead to 4-0 as the Catamounts rattled off three goals (39:22, 41:59, 43:02).
Nick Conklu played in goal for Holy Cross in the first half and made one save. Holy Cross was outshot, 10-1, in the opening half.
Vermont capped off its scoring with a goal in the 50
th minute to hold a 5-0 lead.
The Crusaders found more of their offensive stride as they outshot the Catamounts, 7-4, in the second half.
Bobby Hurstak played the final 45 minutes and made one save for Holy Cross.
Max Krause recorded his fifth of the season in the 81
st minute on a free kick from the left side of the 18-yard box.

"I think tonight was an unnecessary defeat. On our part, we were a little naïve and we played a mature opponent. We needed to continue to play with pride and belief and that's what the next two games are left for."
