Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey drops close one to No. 21 Monmouth

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to No. 21 Monmouth, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Hart Turf Field.

The Hawks got a quick two goals in the first quarter, but the Crusader defense were able to keep them off the board after that. Monmouth did manage 30 shots in the game and were able to put 18 on goal, but senior goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante played extremely well in her final home game of her career, making 16 saves.

The Crusaders got one back with under a minute remaining in the game when Sinead Walsh sent a diagonal pass through the defense to a waiting Megan Mulherin at the left post who beat the Hawk goalie. With only 41 seconds remaining, Holy Cross wasn't able to even the game up to force overtime.

UP NEXT:
The Crusaders have one game remaining and it will be next Saturday, Nov. 2, at 12 p.m. at Bucknell. Holy Cross needs a win to have a chance to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.
