LOWELL, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team lost to UMass Lowell, 2-1, Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders fall to 6-8 on the year as the River Hawks improve to 7-7.
All three goals in the game were scored in the third quarter over the course of four and a half minutes. Lowell scored the first two to take the lead before
Olivia Venezia buried a shot off the pass from
Madeline Alderfer to cut the lead in half.
That's where the score would remain for the rest of the game. The River Hawks would manage seven shots in the fourth quarter, but
Marcia LaPlante stopped all of them that were on goal to keep the deficit at one.
LaPlante made 12 saves on the day for her third consecutive game with a .857 save percentage. Lowell outshot Holy Cross, 23-5, and earned more corners, 7-2.
