PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Brown, 1-0, Wednesday evening.
The Crusaders (6-7) started out hot, earning three penalty corners in the first two minutes, but the Bears (5-7) were up to the task as they stopped Holy Cross from converting on all three.
The game would remain scoreless until late in the third quarter when Brown finally got one to go off a corner.
The Crusaders would have their chances to even the score, including a breakaway in the final minute of the third quarter by Sinead Walsh, but the Bears' keeper was able to come up with the save. Then, in the fourth, a shot by Olivia Venezia hit the post and the ensuing scrum in front of the goal earned Holy Cross a penalty stroke. Brown's keeper came up big again and saved the stroke to earn the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brown outshot Holy Cross, 15-12, but the Crusaders put more shots on goal, 9-8.
- Penalty corners were even at seven apiece.
