Holy Cross Falls To Bucknell

THE BASICS:

•   Score:  Bucknell 77, Holy Cross 52

•   Records: Holy Cross 9-14, 4-8 PL; Bucknell 13-10, 10-2 PL

•   Location: Hart Center, Worcester, Mass.

•   Date: February 6, 2016

•   The Lead: Freshman forward Karl Charles totaled 13 points and five rebounds, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Bucknell 77-52 at the Hart Center.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

•   Holy Cross jumped to an early 9-4 lead just 3:19 into the first half, after Charles posted a fast–break layup and drew a foul in the paint, then hit the free throw to complete the three-point play.

•   The Bison responded with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 11-11 with 15 minutes left before the break.

•   The score would stay close for the next several minutes, and the Crusaders led 20-19 with 9:10 to go in the half.

•   The Bison then used a 9-0 spurt to claim the lead, and would stay ahead by at least six points for the rest of the half.

•   Bucknell eventually took a 39-28 advantage into the locker room.

•   Early in the second half, Holy Cross trimmed the Bison lead to nine points. Junior guard Anthony Thompson drained a three-pointer before Charles netted a pair of foul shots two to make the score 43-34.

•   The Bison were still up by nine (45-36), before using a 10-2 run to take control of the game.

•   Holy Cross would get no closer than 13 points in the final 10 minutes of play, as Bucknell eventually pulled away for a 25-point victory.  

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

•   Thompson and senior guard Eric Green each finished the game with 11 points, with Green scoring 10 of his points in the second half.

•   Freshman forward Jehyve Floyd added six points and four rebounds.

•   Holy Cross shot just 32.1 percent from the floor (17 of 53) and 22.2 percent from three-point range (four of 18) in the game.

•   The Bison hit on 50.9 percent of their field goal attempts (28 of 55), and also held a 37-32 rebounding advantage.

•   Nana Foulland led Bucknell with 22 points and had four rebounds. 

  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

•      Following the contest, Foulland received the Martin J. O'Malley Award as the most valuable player of Holy Cross' Winter Homecoming game.

 

UP NEXT:

•   Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 10, when it plays host to Lafayette in a 7:05 p.m. game at the Hart Center.
