Holy Cross Athletics Updates Mission & Core Values

Another academic year is now under way, and our athletic teams have begun their fall competitive schedules with the goal of bringing multiple conference championships home to Mount St. James. As a department, we are committed to improving the success of our teams, and providing a world-class student-athlete experience while always adhering to the academic mission of the College. Over the last year, members of our administrative and coaching staffs discussed our goals and vision for the future. With that in mind, I am pleased to share our updated Mission and Core Values for Holy Cross Athletics.

First and foremost, we look to provide an exceptional experience for our student-athletes, promoting their academic, athletic and personal growth above all else. In the Jesuit tradition, we look to develop the whole person: mind, body and soul. With this legacy as our foundation, we strive to use athletics as a way to educate and inspire. We are committed to being an integral component of and participant in the Holy Cross community. We strive for individual and team success in intercollegiate athletics.

Our core values are resolute and guide our decision making. They are comprised of four pillars that form the acronym PAIR: Passion, Achievement, Integrity and Respect. We are guided by these values, with confidence that they promote the intellectual, physical, spiritual and moral development of our young men and women. PAIR can be defined as two corresponding items designed for use together. This concept suits perfectly the pairing of athletics and academics at Holy Cross.

Our student-athletes have a storied history of achievement both in the classroom and in competition and are actively involved in the community as men and women for and with others. During the 2015-16 school year alone, Holy Cross had 342 individuals selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and amassed nearly 5,000 hours of community service in the greater Worcester area. The 2015-16 academic year also saw two Holy Cross teams win championships led by men's basketball and women's ice hockey.

Over the coming months, numerous athletic events will take place both on and off campus, which will offer excellent opportunities to display our pride, enthusiasm and unity. I know athletics is a vital part of the overall College community, and we look forward to your continued support of our outstanding student-athletes.

Go Crusaders!
