  • The Lead: In the opening game of the 2016-2017 Turnpike Trophy competition, the Crusaders fell to the Terriers by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday night in Worcester.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Late into an evenly matched first half, BU struck first on a goal by Chelsea Churchill that found the top left corner of the net off a pass from Hannah Wilcox in 37th minute.
  • Churchill earned her second goal of the night in the 42nd minute on a give-and-go pass from Rachel Blauner that soared into the net from 20 yards out to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
  • Jesse Shreck made it a 3-0 game for the Terriers in the 57th minute off a pass from Libby Closson, that was deflected by Erica Kosienski.
  • Holy Cross junior defender Allie Neumann made it a 3-1 game when she rocketed a shot from 25 yards out in the 85th minute.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Cashion stopped five shots for Holy Cross.
  • Bridget Conway had two saves while Hannah Ciolek had one for Boston University as they split time at 45 minutes each.
  • Shots attempted were 15-11 in favor of BU.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Neumann scored her second goal of the season, and third of her career. She is now tied for third on the team with four points.

THE TURNPIKE TROPHY

  • Boston University claimed the first point in the 2016-2017 Turnpike Trophy competition, taking a 1-0 lead in the standings.
  • Churchill was named the MVP of Wednesday night's game after notching two goals for the Terriers.
  • The next game in the series will take place this Friday night, as the Holy Cross field hockey team travels to Boston to take on the Terriers in Patriot League action at 7:00 p.m.
