• The Lead: Junior guard Robert Champion posted game highs of 20 points and seven rebounds, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Navy 65-60 at Alumni Hall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Champion hit seven of 13 field goal attempts and five of eight three-pointers on the day, in addition to handing out two assists.
• Freshman guard Karl Charles added a career-high 16 points, five rebounds and three steals, while junior forward Malachi Alexander finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
• The Midshipmen were led by Shawn Anderson with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.
• Navy made 42.3 percent of its field goal attempts in the game (22 of 52), while Holy Cross knocked down just 38.8 percent of its shots from the floor (19 of 49).
• The Midshipmen also held a 43-27 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Crusaders started the game hot, jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead after the first 2:34 of action.
• Navy responded by scoring the next nine points to pull ahead, and went on to take a 14-9 lead with 13:16 remaining in the first half.
• Holy Cross then used a 9-2 spurt to move back in front, but the Midshipmen eventually took a 24-22 lead into the locker room.
• Navy went back in front by five (28-23) early in the second half, before the Crusaders used an 8-2 run to reclaim the lead.
• But the Midshipmen scored the next seven points, and went on to increase their lead to as many as nine points (57-48 with 2:19 remaining).
• Holy Cross would get no closer than three points in the closing minutes, as Navy hit eight of 11 free throws in the last 1:18 to hold on for the victory.
