Nicole Giannino Drafted By Boston Blades

WORCESTER, Mass. – Former Holy Cross student-athlete Nicole Giannino (class of 2015) was selected in the Canadian Women's Hockey League Draft by the Boston Blades on Sunday afternoon. She was the Blades' second draft pick, and was selected 10th overall.

Giannino accumulated 70 points with 37 goals and 33 assists in 104 games in her career as a Crusader. As a junior she led the team in scoring at 26 points with 12 goals and 14 assists. She was also named ECAC Player of the Week on two occasions, and the GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week once during her junior season.

Giannino finished her career tied 10th for career goals (37), and sixth for career game-winning goals (9) in program history. She appeared in every game for three straight seasons from her sophomore year up through her senior season.

The Canadian Women's Hockey League is one of the premier women's professional leagues in the world, and focuses on building a league that is dedicated to raising the profile of women's hockey, and serving as an inspiration for the next generation of female hockey players. 2015-2016 will mark the league's eighth season of operation.

The Boston Blades are coming off a stellar season, having won the league's top prize in the Clarkson Cup this past March. The team featured various United States Olympians such as Hilary Knight, Meghan Duggan and Brianna Decker.
