WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior shortstop Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was selected in the 34th round (1011th pick) of the 2015 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Boston Red Sox. He becomes the third Crusader drafted by the Red Sox, joining Ron Perry (1979) and Jim Larkin (1993).
Named first team All-Patriot League in 2015, Lovullo batted .278 during his junior campaign and led the team with 38 runs scored. He also recorded 49 hits, nine doubles, three home runs, 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases. Defensively, Lovullo registered the second most fielding assists in program history with 154.
Over his three-year career, Lovullo has played in 138 games with 134 collegiate starts. He holds a career .257 batting average with 83 runs scored, 123 hits, 22 doubles, 64 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. Lovullo has assisted on 309 fielding plays at Holy Cross, which ranks 10th all-time in program history.
This is the second time Lovullo has been drafted, as he was selected out of high school in the 38th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012. He also joins recent Holy Cross draftees Matt Perry (2010; Detroit Tigers), John Pedrotty (2011; Arizona Diamondbacks), Nate Koneski (2012; Seattle Mariners) and Mike Ahmed (2013; Los Angeles Dodgers).
