Charlie Murphy Wins Daniel Allen Sportsmanship Award

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior linebacker Charlie Murphy (Old Mill Creek, Ill.), a member of the football team, has been selected as the recipient of the Daniel Allen Sportsmanship Award. The award was presented at the 60th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Satruday, May 2.

The Allen Award was established in 2005, and is presented to the Holy Cross varsity athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship that coach Allen exhibited throughout his life.

After playing football for the Crusaders during his freshman and sophomore years, Murphy saw his career cut short due to injuries. But rather than walking away from the team, he became even more involved in a number of different roles – as a manager, a student-coach, a video assistant and any other role that needed to be filled for the sake of the program. Murphy continued to increase his knowledge of the game by attending positional and coaches meetings, and remained one of the most respected members of the team because of his leadership, work ethic and sportsmanship.
