Women's Track & Field Competes At Tiger Classic, VertKlasse Meeting and New Hampshire

THE BASICS 
Score: Tiger Classic: No team scores; VertKlasse Meeting: No team scores; New Hampshire: 5th of 5 (80.50 points)
Location: Hutsell-Rosen Track (Auburn, Ala.) ; Vert Track, Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium (High Point, N.C.) ; Reggie Atkins Track and Field Facility (Durham, N.H.) 
The Lead: The Holy Cross women's track and field team traveled to three meets this weekend as select student-athletes went to the Tiger Classic in at Auburn University on Saturday while others traveled to the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C. and to New Hampshire with Maine. Sophomores Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass.) and Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) led the team in High Point, N.C. with sixth and third place finishes, while junior Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) led the way in the Tiger Classic with eighth and sixth place finishes and senior co-captain Abigail Mitchell (Manchester, N.H.) earning a first-place finish of her own in New Hampshire. 

VERTKLASSE MEETING 

  • The Crusaders earned top-10 finishes from Kimball, senior co-captain Sarah Dahlstrom (Southborough, Mass.), Eldracher, junior Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) and freshman Alanna Hitscherich (Sussex, N.J.) in their respective events. 
  • Eldracher placed third and cleared a career-best distance and set a new Holy Cross record with a distance of 11.50 meters in the triple jump, while Hitscherich followed in fifth at 11.45 meters. 
  • In the high jump, Kimball tied for sixth with a heigh of 1.60 meters with Dahlstrom and LaCoste following in eighth (1.60m) and tied for ninth (1.55m), respectively. 

TIGER CLASSIC

  • Carley led the way for the Crusaders as she posted an eighth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.52 and also recorded a sixth place finish in the 1,500 run at 4.37.32.
  • Sophomore Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) recorded a career-best time of 4:38.86 in the 1,500-meter run and a ninth-place finish, while junior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) followed Carley and Sowinski, placing 11th with a career-best time of 4:39.02. 
  • In the 5,000 meter run, freshman Hannah Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) placed 11th with a time of 10:21.12. 
  • In the field events, senior co-captain Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) posted the top Crusader finish in the pole vault, clearing a height 3.55 and an 11th place finish. 

NEW HAMPSHIRE WITH MAINE 

  • Leading Holy Cross was Mitchell as she placed first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:04.43 and also had an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter run at 2:32.56. 
  • Senior co-captain Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) had the top finish for the Crusaders in the 100-meter hurdles, placing eighth with a time of 16.10 seconds. 
  • In the 400-meter run, junior Oona Wood (Williamstown, Mass.) finished third with a time of 1:03.60 as freshman Meghan Dietter (Sherman, Conn) and sophomore Gabriela West (Chester, N.J.) followed in eighth at 1:04.73. 
  • Posting a career-best time  of 18:34.32 in the 5,000-meter run was sophomore Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) with sophomore Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) crossing the finish line behind Carr in eighth at 18:51.05. 
  • The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Dietter, Wood, freshman Jordan Poindexter (Cambridge, Mass.) and sophomore Victoria Stephens (Cranston, R.I.) placed third with a time of 4:21.04. 
  • In the field events, the Crusaders had six top-five finishes coming from sophomore Samantha Speroni (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.), seniors MaryGrace Brogioli (Wareham, Mass.) and Cailee Dean (Southhampton, Mass.) and sophomore Cassie Kobelski (Andover, Mass.). 
  • Speroni finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.27 meters, while Dean took third in the long jump with a distance of 5.06 meters. 
  • Kobelski placed third in the shot put, throwing a distance of 10.95 meters with Brogioli taking second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.77 meters. 

UP NEXT 

  • The Crusaders return to the track on Saturday, April 11 as they travel to Amherst, Mass. for the Minuteman Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
