The Lead: Senior Mary Klimasewiski (Conchester, Conn.) tallied both Crusader goals as Holy Cross drew to a 2-2 tie with the University of New England in their fourth annual "Pink the Rink" in ECAC East women's hockey action on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Right from the start, Holy Cross was putting the pressure on the University of New England as the Crusaders went on the power-play nine minutes into the first period.
  • Coming from the right wing, freshman Kara Violette (Biddeford, Maine) handed off a pass to junior captain Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) as McGee then passed the puck back and forth to Klimasewiski. On McGee's second pass, Klimasewiski drove the puck from the left wing and found an opening in front of the net and shot it underneath the legs of Nor'Easters goalie Sydney Helmbrecht and gave the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead (11:21).
  • At the end of the first period, the Crusaders went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead and outshooting the Nor'Easters 12-3.
  • The second period started off quiet for both teams as Holy Cross went 0-1 on the power-play.
  • With two minutes remaining in the second period, the Nor'Easters gained momentum. Junior Megan Meskill (Minneapolis, Minn.) took a shot at the blue line, but it was blocked and quickly recovered by Shannon Smith as she drove it to the net and whipped a wrist shot that found the back of the net past senior goalie Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.), tying the game at 1-1 (18:29).
  • The Crusaders jumped out to the 2-1 lead three minutes into the third stanza on Klimasewiski's second goal of the game. Violette drove the puck up from the blue line and crossed it over to Klimasewiski as her wrist shot found the back right hand corner of the net behind Helmbrecht (17:29).
  • However, the Nor'Easters stunned the crowd by scoring a goal with just .08 seconds remaining in regulation. Emily Corrales gained control of the puck as Smith poked it forward and swooped it up. The puck then deflected off the skate of Corrales and found the stick of Mary Wirth who snuck the puck between Stevenson's right pad and the post, giving UNE  life and tying the game at 2-2 (19:52).
  • Despite out shooting the Nor'Easters 11-3 in the third period, the Crusaders were unable to tally another goal as the game entered overtime.
  • With the game on the line, Holy Cross and UNE used whatever energy and momentum in them. Shot after shot, the puck never found the net for either team and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
