WORCESTER, Mass. – Qualifying members of the Holy Cross women's indoor track and field team will return to the track at the 2015 New England Indoor Championship on Friday and Saturday, Feb.27-28, hosted by Boston University. Last weekend, the Crusaders raced in the Patriot League Indoor Championship, hosted by Navy, where they finished fourth overall out of ten schools.
PREVIOUSLY AT THE PATRIOT LEAGUE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP
• In last weekend's Patriot League Indoor Championship, the Crusaders placed fourth of ten schools as Bucknell took first overall with a score of 180 points.
• Senior co-captain Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) led the way for Holy cross as she had two second-place finishes in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes.
• She ran a career-best time of 7.26 in the 60, as well setting a new PL Indoor Championship meet record. In the 200, she ran an ECAC qualifying time of 24.97.
• Other ECAC qualifying times came from junior Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) in the 1,000-meter and one-mile run at 2:53.75 and 2:57.34, senior Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) in the 60 (7.64 seconds) and senior co-captain Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) in the pole vault (3.60m).
HOLY CROSS IN THE NEW ENGLAND INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP
• At last year's New England Indoor Championship, the Crusaders placed ninth of 36, as Northeastern took the NEICAAA title.
• Carley led Holy Cross with a first-place finish in the 1,000-meter run, outpacing the field with a time of 2:49.94.
• Graduate Stephanie Okpoebo added a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash and third place finish in the 200-meter dash. She finished the 60 in 7.61 seconds and the 200 in 24.35 seconds.
• Tabin advanced to the 60-meter dash final as well and took eighth overall with a time of 7.89 seconds.
• Sophomore Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) took part in the final heat of the 1,000-meter run, taking eighth behind Carley with a time of 3:03.00.
• Senior co-captain Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) competed in the 60-meter hurdles semifinal and finished 12th overall with a time of 9.19 seconds.
• More top Holy Cross performances came from graduate Emily Hughes, who finished 12th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:57.70 and graduate Hannah McCormick, who finished 14th in the one mile with a time of 5:04.05.
• In the relay events, the 4 x 800 relay team of Carley, McCormick, junior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) and Sowinski finished in third place with a time of 9:03.31 while the 4 x 400 relay team of graduates Lauren Bellerose and Mariel Flood, senior co-captain Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) and senior Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.) finished 20th at 4:00.40.
