The Lead: Norwich's Taylor Cross and Kaycie Anderson scored for the Cadets as Holy Cross fell 3-1 to Norwich on senior day at the Hart Center on Friday afternoon in ECAC East women's hockey action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holy Cross and Norwich both put up a fight as the teams battled for the puck to find the back of the net. Senior goalie Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) saved seven shots sent her way by Norwich, but the Cadets outshot the Crusaders 8-4 in the period.
  • The Crusaders struck late in the first stanza on a goal by freshman Lauren Abbenante (Cranston, R.I.). Senior Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) came from around the back of the net and wrapped the puck around to Abbenante, who sent the puck into the net from the right side and past Norwich goalie Loren Carrier with two minutes remaining. The clock wound down to zero and Holy Cross entered the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
  • Holy Cross kept the 1-0 advantage through more than the first half of the second period. With some help by Norwich's Madyson Moore and Erin Joyce, Taylor Cross was able to fire her slap shot from the right wing past Stevenson as the puck found the bottom right hand corner, putting Norwich right back into the game as the score was even at 1-1 (13:42).
  • Entering the final stanza, Norwich was outshooting Holy Cross 15-12.
  • For the remainder of the period, Norwich gained puck control and were able to register two more goals.
  • The Cadets took their first lead of the game eleven minutes in on Cross's second goal of the game just three seconds after Holy Cross returned a player to the ice. Maki Shuchuk had the helper as Norwich took the 2-1 lead.
  • With 13 seconds remaining on the clock and Holy Cross down 2-1, Stevenson exited the net to add an extra Holy Cross defender on the ice. However, Norwich took advantage of the empty net opportunity as Kaycie Anderson softly sent a slap shot into the bottom  left hand corner of the net as the Cadets took the 3-1 lead (19:47).
  • Stevenson reentered the game after the goal was scored, but Norwich sealed the deal and took the 3-1 victory.
