Men's Basketball Takes Down Lehigh 58-52

  • The Lead: Junior guard Eric Green (Mountain House, Calif.) scored a team-high 13 points on six of nine shooting from the field, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 58-52 victory over Lehigh at the Hart Center. Following the contest, Green received the Martin J. O'Malley Award as the most valuable player of the Crusaders' Winter Homecoming game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Crusaders played excellent defense, holding Lehigh to just 29.6 percent shooting from the floor (16 of 54), including 18.8 percent from three-point range (three of 16).
  • Holy Cross also totaled nine blocked shots and nine steals on the day, while forcing the Mountain Hawks to commit 14 turnovers.
  • Senior forward Malcolm Miller (Laytonsville, Md.) finished the game with 12 points, four rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.
  • Sophomore forward Malachi Alexander (Bowie, Md.) added nine points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Mountain Hawks were led by Tim Kempton with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lehigh held a 5-3 lead at the 15:59-mark of the first half, before the Crusaders scored nine straight points to pull in front.
  • Holy Cross went on to extend its lead to 15 points late in the half, before taking a 30-18 advantage into the locker room.
  • The Crusaders were still up by 10 points (37-27) with 13:31 left in regulation, before using an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 16 points (45-29).
  • Holy Cross was still up by 16 (47-31) with 9:33 remaining, before the Mountain Hawks went on a 15-3 run to get back into the game.
  • Lehigh had the ball down by four (50-46) with less than two minutes to play, but after Kahron Ross missed a three-pointer, Green grabbed the rebound and fed junior forward Christopher Morgan (Gloucester, Va.) for a breakaway dunk to put the Crusaders back up by six.
  • Holy Cross then hit six of eight free throws in the final minute to hold on for the win.

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 18, when they travel to Lafayette for a 7:00 p.m. game.
