WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman forward Julie Matthias (Thornton, Colo.) was named the New England Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week, for competition from Dec. 7-13, as announced by the league. Matthias notched three points (2g,1a) in two games as the Crusaders earned a pair of one-goal victories over Connecticut College and Colby.
Matthias scored the game-winning goal in the third period as the Crusaders defeated Connecticut College on Dec. 8. The freshman also scored the tying goal in the third period against Colby on Dec. 12, and notched the primary assist on the game-winning goal in overtime as Holy Cross defeated the Mules 5-4 at the Hart Center.
This is the fourth time a Crusader has been named NEHC Rookie of the Week this season, and the second time Matthias has received the award. Matthias was named Rookie of the Week on Nov. 2, while freshman Sam Girard (Dedham, Mass.) received the award on Nov. 9 and freshman Danielle Doherty (Wakefield, Mass.) received the award on Nov. 23.
The Crusaders (10-2-0, 4-2-0 NEHC) will return to action on Jan. 2 for their opening game of the Rutland Herald Invitational in Rutland, Vt., where they will face Manhattanville.
