  • The Lead: Junior guard Robert Champion scored a career-high 19 points, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by New Hampshire 73-69 at the Hart Center.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Champion hit seven of 13 field goals and five of 10 three-pointers on the night, in addition to totaling four assists and three steals.
  • Junior forward Malachi Alexander recorded 13 points, six rebounds and a career-best seven assists, while junior guard Anthony Thompson added 11 points, five assists and four steals.
  • The Wildcats were led by Pat McNamara with 18 points on six of nine shooting from three-point range, and Iba Camara with 14 points and 18 rebounds.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game was tied at 6-6 early on, before the Crusaders went on a 9-2 run to claim a seven-point lead (15-8).
  • Holy Cross was still up by six (22-16) with 8:54 remaining in the first half, before New Hampshire scored eight straight points to claim its first lead of the night.
  • The Wildcats later used an 8-2 run over the final five minutes of the half to take a 34-30 advantage into the locker room.
  • The Crusaders trimmed the margin to one point (40-39) early in the second half, before New Hampshire scored the next 13 points to take a commanding 53-39 lead.
  • The Wildcats were later up by 12 (65-53), when Holy Cross used a 12-2 spurt to close to within two points (67-65) with 2:52 remaining.
  • The Crusaders were still down by two (71-69) in the final minute, but New Hampshire's Camara grabbed an offensive rebound, then Jaleen Smith hit two free throws to conclude the scoring.

 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Holy Cross tied the school records for both three-point field goals made (15) and three-point field goals attempted (35), in addition to tying the Hart Center record with 15 three-pointers made.
  • The Crusaders previously made 15 three-pointers on Jan. 11, 2006, at Army, while attempting 35 three-pointers on Jan. 17, 2015, at Lehigh.
  • The only other time a team made 15 three-pointers at the Hart Center came on Dec. 5, 1988, when Assumption accomplished the feat against Holy Cross.
