THE BASICS:

• The Lead: Senior guard Cullen Hamilton scored a game-high 18 points, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Brown 71-55 at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Hamilton hit six of 11 field goal attempts and all four of his free throws on the night.
• Junior guard Robert Champion finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals, and freshman forward Karl Charles scored a career-high 12 points.
• Brown was led by J.R. Hobbie with 16 points, while Cedric Kuakumensah (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Steven Spieth (11 points, 14 rebounds) both posted double-doubles.
• The Bears hit 51.7 percent of their field goal attempts on the night (30 of 58), while the Crusaders connected on just 30.9 percent of their shots from the floor (17 of 55).
• Holy Cross did make 81.8 percent of its free throws (18 of 22), with Brown making just three of eight shots (37.5 percent) at the charity stripe.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The game was close early on, and Brown held a 17-16 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
• The Bears then went on an 8-2 run to extend their lead to eight points (25-17), but the Crusaders responded with a 9-2 spurt a few minutes later to tie the game at 30-30.
• Brown eventually took a 35-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Holy Cross started the second half hot, using a quick 7-1 run to claim the lead (39-36).
• But the Bears scored the next nine points to pull back in front, and would extend their lead to nine points (50-41) with 12 minutes left in regulation.
• The Crusaders scored seven straight points to stay in the game, and were later down by five (60-55) with 5:45 left to play.
• But Holy Cross would not score again, and Brown closed out the game on an 11-0 run to pull away for the win.
