HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first period was quiet for both Holy Cross and St. Michael's as neither team was able to find the back of the net. Holy Cross outshot St. Michael's 12-6 as the Crusaders went into the locker room still on the power-play with the game tied 0-0
  • St. Michael's were able to escape the power-play with no harm done, but gave Holy Cross yet another opportunity seven minutes into the period. With 20 seconds remaining on the power-play, senior co-captain Francesca Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) passed the puck up to sophomore Erin Hall (Pembroke, Mass.) as she slapped a wrist shot that was blocked by by St. Michael's goalie Tina Frasca. The puck bounded off Frasca's kneepads as Bagi recovered the rebound off the left side in front of the net as it found its way past her, putting Holy Cross up 1-0 (7:44).
  • A tripping penalty committed by Bagi to St. Michael's Erin Dwyer in front of the Holy Cross net allowed the Purple Knights to take their shot at evening the score just several minutes after the Crusaders scored. Dwyer drove the puck up to senior goalie Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.), but was unable to score as Stevenson made a diving save, securing the 1-0 Holy Cross lead.
  • At the end of the second, St. Michael's found themselves down 1-0 and were outshot 13-4 by Holy Cross.
  • Regardless of being down 1-0 going into the third stanza, the Purple Knights gained momentum back and struck at 9:02 on a power-play goal by Jillian Witwicki. Amanda Kempanien received a pass from behind the net and sent it to Dwyer as she found Witwicki in front of the net. Witwicki slipped it past Stevenson as the score was tied at 1-1.
  • With the game down to the wire, both teams were scrambling to find the back of the net. St. Michael's nearly took the 2-1 lead with just seconds remaining on a shot by Lauren Cuculino that hit the post. Neither team scored as the game headed into overtime.
