Men's Basketball Takes Down Navy 76-65

THE BASICS:

The Lead: Sophomore forward Malachi Alexander (Bowie, Md.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 76-65 victory over Navy at the Hart Center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Alexander hit 10 of 13 free throw attempts on the day, in addition to making three of six field goal attempts.
Senior forward Malcolm Miller (Laytonsville, Md.) totaled 15 points, three rebounds and three assists for Holy Cross.
Senior guard Justin Burrell (Dumfries, Va.) added 12 points and two assists.
Freshman forward Mitchell Hahn (Fremont, Neb.) also played well, finishing with eight points and eight assists.
Navy was led by Brandon Venturini with 16 points and three assists.
The Crusaders hit a season-best 58.1 percent of their field goal attempts on the day (25 of 43), including 42.9 percent of their three-pointers (nine of 21).
Holy Cross also held a 23-21 rebounding advantage, and forced Navy to commit 15 turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Midshipmen opened the game by hitting their first four shots, and went on to take a 20-9 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Navy was still up by 10 points (22-12) a few minutes later, when the Crusaders used a 13-3 run to tie the score at 25-25.
Holy Cross went on to close the half with a 9-2 spurt, and took a 38-31 lead into the locker room.
The Crusaders continued their strong play early in the second half, outscoring the Midshipmen 14-2 over the first seven minutes to build their lead up to 19 points (52-33).
Holy Cross would lead by at least 11 points for the rest of the game, before eventually claiming an 11-point victory.

The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28, when they travel to Loyola (Md.) for a 7:30 p.m. game.
