THE BASICS

  • The Lead: Holy Cross freshman Caitlin Harty (Beverly, Mass.) tallied the game-winning goal in the 27th minute to help lead the Crusaders to a 2-0 triumph over Albany in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The win improves Holy Cross to 6-0-0 on the season, which is the best start in program history. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • There were no shots by either team until Albany had the first scoring opportunity of the game in the 20th minute off a shot by Alexa Schneider that was quickly saved by senior goalie Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.).
  • Harty netted her third goal of the season off a free kick in the 27th minute. Sophomore Claire Malone (Glen Ridge, N.J.) sent in a free kick that was headed by junior Sarah Price (Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J.) to the right side of the box. Harty gathered the header and converted the shot to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.
  • In the 38th minute, junior Jenna Scanlon (Auburn, Mass.) took a free kick that rang the crossbar.
  • Albany's Leanne Miller took a shot at the 40:12 mark of the game from inside the box, but McCabe guided the shot over the net. 
  • On the final goal of the game (67:35), Harty drove a shot from inside the box that bounced off the right post. An Albany defender redirected the bouncing ball into the net for an own goal, which put the Crusaders up 2-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • McCabe picked up her sixth win of the season and fourth shutout of the year with three saves, while Brennan made six saves for the visitors.
  • Holy Cross held the advantage in shots (12-10) and shots on goal (8-3), while Albany led in corner kicks (8-3).
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • McCabe now has 14 career shutouts, which ties her for third in program history. She also recorded her career-best sixth win of the season.
  • The goal by Harty was her third of the season, while Price recorded her second assist of the year. The helper by Malone was the first of her career.
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders return to action on Sept. 11 when they host Fairfield at 7:05 p.m. at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
