Holy Cross Skates To A 2-0 Victory Over Colby

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior goaltender Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) earned her second shutout of the season as Holy Cross defeated Colby on Tuesday night at the Hart Center by a score of 2-0. The Crusaders winning streak is at six games as they improve to 15-5-1 overall. The Mules fall to 5-11-2 on the year.

The first period was a defensive battle on both sides of the puck. Only 10 shots were taken as Colby held a slight edge with six shots while Holy Cross mustered four. At the end of one it was 0-0.

Both teams came out very strong after the first intermission. Holy Cross got its offense running off to a fast start with just over a minute into the period as senior Kylee Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) scored on a deflected shot and sophomore Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) was credited with the assist to take the 1-0 lead. The goal was Sullivan's sixth on the year. With 7:15 into the period freshman Rose Rather (Stamford, Conn.) set up a one-timer to junior Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) at the bottom of the circle but the Crusaders were unable to capitalize. At the end of two periods Holy Cross held a 1-0 advantage.

The Crusaders and Mules went hard up and down the ice in the final stanza not giving up on the offensive and defensive ends. With 3:07 showing left on the clock Holy Cross was able to put together the second and final goal of the game. Klimasewiski caught her own rebound just outside of the crease off of a previous shot from the stick side circle. This was Klimasewiski's seventh goal of the season. Sophomore Mackenzie Boardman (Anchorage, Alaska) and Rather paved the way with the assists. Holy Cross held its ground and earned its 15th win of the season and the winning streak stays alive.

Stevenson, who made 18 saves, earned her eighth win of the season as her record is now 8-2-1.  The Mules net minder Brianne Wheeler had a stellar game between the pipes as she recorded 29 saves in the loss.

Holy Cross returns to the ice for a road game against St. Anselm on Friday, Feb. 7 in ECAC East action. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
