  • The Lead: Senior forward Malcolm Miller (Laytonsville, Md.) scored a season-high 18 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Syracuse 72-48 at the Carrier Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game was close early on, as the Orange held a 10-9 lead with 11:50 remaining in the first half.
  • Syracuse then went on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to extend its advantage to double figures (20-9).
  • The Orange would stay in front by at least 10 points for the remainder of the first half, eventually extending their lead to 22 (39-17) heading into the locker room.
  • Syracuse was still up by 21 points (43-22) with 17:54 left in regulation, when the Crusaders went on a 15-5 run over the next six minutes to trim the margin down to 11 points (48-37).
  • But Holy Cross would then go cold from the field, as the Orange responded with an 8-0 spurt to build their lead back up to 19 (56-37).
  • The Crusaders would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way, as Syracuse pulled away in the closing minutes for a 24-point victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross totaled 10 steals on the night, while forcing the Orange to commit 15 turnovers.
  • The Crusaders also held Syracuse without a three-point field goal, with the Orange missing all 14 of their attempts from behind the arc.
  • But Syracuse held a 50-30 rebounding advantage, and hit 46.4 percent of its field goals overall (26 of 56).
  • Raheem Christmas led the Orange with a career-high 25 points on eight of 10 shooting from the field, while Chris McCullough added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
  • The crowd of 19,167 was the sixth-largest to ever see Holy Cross play, and the third-biggest in the regular season.
