The Lead: Senior Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) and junior captain Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) each scored two goals for the Crusaders, leading Holy Cross to a 6-0 victory over Plymouth State at Hanaway Rink on Friday night in ECAC East women's hockey action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holy Cross got off to the fast start in the first period as freshman Lauren Abbenante (Cranston, R.I.) netted her third goal of the season to put the Crusaders up 1-0 (14:08). The goal was assisted by Klimasewiski and senior Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.).
- Neither Holy Cross or Plymouth State scored in the second period, as the Crusaders had 11 shots on goal while the Panthers had four.
- In the third period, the flood gates opened for Holy Cross as they went on a five goal tear.
- At 3:49 of the third period, Holy Cross began their attack on the Panthers as Klimasewiski scored her first goal of the game, assisted by freshman Kara Violette (Biddeford, Maine) and junior Megan Meskill (Minneapolis, Minn.) to put the Crusaders up 2-0.
- Taking advantage of a Plymouth State power play, Violette scored her fourth goal of the season and put the Crusaders up 3-0 (10:09) on Giannino's second assist of the game.
- McGee scored her first goal of the season by senior Rachel Miller (Jackson, Mich.) and Giannino, her third assist of the game, to give Holy Cross the 4-0 lead (12:24).
- Plymouth State once again went on the power play, and Holy Cross once again took advantage. Klimasewiski scored her second goal of the game on the 5-3 advantage, assisted by freshman Emily Lissner (Woburn, Mass.), putting the Crusaders up 5-0 (14:35).
- With three minutes remaining in regulation, the Crusaders struck again on another Plymouth State power play. Assisted by senior captain Francesca Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.), McGee scored her second goal of the game on the 5-3 advantage, sealing the Holy Cross victory at 6-0 (17:21).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior goalie Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) had 12 saves for the Crusaders, as Alyssa Altschuler had 28 saves for the Panthers.
- Giannino and Klimasewiski each tallied three points, as Violette and McGee each tallied two points each.
- Holy Cross held the advantage in shots on goal (34-12).
- Plymouth State went 0-5 on the power play as Holy Cross went 1-3.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Violette has a team-high six assists, as Giannino follows in second with five.
- McGee's two goals were her first of the season.
