Women's Hockey Falls To Franklin Pierce, 2-1

THE BASICS

Location: Hart Center (Worcester, Mass.)
The Lead: Karsyn Baker and Marisa Ketterman both scored for Franklin Pierce as the Crusaders fell to the Ravens 2-1 in ECAC East women's hockey action, suffering their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team were able to find the net in the first period, Holy Cross had nine shots on goal as Franklin Pierce had five.
  • Franklin Pierce took the first scoring opportunity at 7:06 when Hayley Arnold passed the puck along to Karsyn Baker. Baker gained speed as she skated towards the net and fell into senior goalie Krista Manzaneres (Racho Santa Margarita, Calif.). The call was questioned, but counted as a goal to put the Ravens up 1-0 in the second period.
  • In the third period, Holy Cross were on the power play as freshman Kara Violette (Biddeford, Maine) netted a shorthanded goal, assisted by senior captain Francesca Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) that whipped past the reach of Franklin Pierce goalie Shannon O'Neil to tie the game at 1-1 (6:24).
  • At 16:36, Franklin Pierce's Alex Broslma connected with Ketterman, as her fourth goal of the season put the Ravens up 2-1 in the third period.
  • In the remaining minutes of the third, Holy Cross was unable to get the puck past O'Neil as the Crusaders fell 2-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Manzanares had 12 saves for the Crusaders, as O'Neil had 30 saves for the Ravens.
  • Holy Cross held the advantage in the face-off circle (37-18) and shots on goal (31-14). 
  • The Crusaders were 0-4 on the power play while Franklin Pierce was 0-3.

  • The Crusaders return to the ice for back-to-back ECAC East games as they travel to Plymouth State on Friday, Nov. 21 and St. Michael's on Saturday, Nov. 22.
