WORCESTER, Mass. – Nine different Holy Cross players scored as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team registered an 11-0 win over Sacred Heart tonight in non-conference action at the Hart Center. The Crusaders continue their three-game winning streak as they improve to 9-5-0 on the season. The Pioneers fall to 4-9-5 on the year.
Junior Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) scored the first goal of the game 3:42 into the first period as junior Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) garnered the assist. Klimasewiski capped off the night with a hat-trick, with two more goals coming in the second period. Giannino posted one goal and three assists on the night. She now leads the team with a total of 18 points on the season. Freshman Meghan O'Donnell (Lancaster, Mass.) scored the second goal of the game as it was the first collegiate goal and point in her career.
Sophomore Mackenzie Boardman (Anchorage, Alaska) registered her second goal of the season in the first stanza. Boardman also chipped in an assist to give her two total on the year. Junior Madison Schneider (Fort Myers, Fla.) scored her first goal of the season and posted the first assist of her career. Schneider's tally was the fourth goal of the game in the first period as Giannino and co-captain Francesca Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass) notched the assists. Holy Cross scored a total of five goals in the first period.
The Crusaders' fast paced offense continued in the second period as the squad posted five more goals. Freshman Erin Hall (Pembroke, Mass.) posted her first collegiate goal on a power play and now has four points thus far this season. Sophomore Megan Meskill (Minneapolis, Minn.) and junior Chelsea Monahan (Cherry Hill, N.J.) paved the way for the assists as it was the 10th goal of the game. Meskill notched her first point of the season and Monahan earned her second assist on the year. Sophomore Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) posted her first goal of the season in the second period and recorded one assist on the night as well. Rounding out the scoring in the second frame was junior Meaghan Sullivan (Brockton, Mass.) who scored off assists from Boardman and junior Kate Reilly (Natick, Mass.).
The Pioneers did what they could to get the offense going but the Crusaders were too strong down the stretch. Sacred Heart outshot Holy Cross in the final period 8-6. Senior Kylee Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) scored the final goal of the game. She now has a total four points on the season all coming off of goals.
Holy Cross posted a total of 39 shots tonight compared to Sacred Heart's 19.
Junior goaltender Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) earned the win tonight between the pipes as she recorded a total of 11 saves and her overall record now stands at 4-3. Freshman Hildie Hoeschen (St. Paul, Minn.) saw 20 minutes of action as she recorded eight saves in the game.
Nicole Magee suffered the loss as she earned a total of 13 saves in net giving up seven goals. Mandy Montgomery saw 30-plus minutes of action as she recorded 15 saves between the pipes.
Holy Cross will travel to Stamford, Conn. to take on Manhattanville on Friday, Jan. 17 in ECAC East play. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
