Holy Cross Places Eight On Worcester Area Baseball Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team had eight representatives named to the Third Annual Worcester Area Baseball All-Star Team as voted on by the sports information directors representing all 10 Worcester area colleges and universities. In addition, first baseman Jordan Enos (Stockton, Calif.) and relief pitcher John Colella (Herndon, Va.) were named Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Holy Cross head coach Greg DiCenzo was tabbed Worcester Area Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Enos, who won Patriot League Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, is currently batting .341 with two homers, 36 runs batted in, 60 base-knocks and 32 runs scored. Enos is currently tied for first in his conference with 18 doubles while he is also third in RBIs, fourth in both total bases (81) and batting average.

Colella, who was recognized as the first-ever reliever to garner Patriot League Pitcher of the Year laurels, has posted a 2-3 mark with 51 strikeouts in 45.1 innings to go with a 3.57 earned run average and eight saves in 23 appearances. In league action, Colella was nearly untouchable as he went 2-0 with six stops in addition to yielding just two earned runs and 24 strikeouts in 21 frames of work.

DiCenzo, who received the nod as the Patriot League Coach of the Year, piloted Holy Cross to an overall mark of 28-23 and 15-5 in conference play. The Crusaders will be making their third Patriot League Tournament championship series appearance in the last four seasons when they host third-seeded Army this upcoming weekend in a best of three series for the chance to go to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.

Headlining the first team for Holy Cross was Enos, Colella, junior third baseman Mike Ahmed (East Longmeadow, Mass.), senior outfielder Patrick Puentes (East Greenbush, N.Y.), sophomore outfielder Evan Ocello (Camarillo, Calif.) and sophomore pitcher Donny Murray (Walpole, Mass.). Junior second baseman Andrew Barry (Puyallup, Wash.) and third-year outfielder Brandon Cipolla (Abington, Mass.) were selected to the second team.

Holy Cross will play one non-conference game at Maine on Wednesday, May 15 before it entertains Army on Sunday and Monday, May 19-20, in the Patriot League Tournament championship series. The contest versus the Black Bears will take place in Sanford, Maine at Goodall Park with the first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m.
