Women's Ice Hockey Falls To Manhattanville, 3-2

STAMFORD, Conn. – Senior Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.) recorded her 100th career point as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Manhattanville on Sunday afternoon in Stamford, Conn. English buried the team's first goal and freshman Kati Goguen (Acton, Mass.) also lit the lamp for the Crusaders. Holy Cross is now 12-5-5 (6-4-5 ECAC East) on the season while the Valiants are now 14-7-1 (12-2-1 ECAC East).

Manhattanville got on the board first with 8:28 remaining in the first period as Mary Rose Morrison tallied her fifth goal of the season off assists from Alla Traun and Aubrey Bachand. Holy Cross responded just over three minutes later as English netted her fifth goal of the season with help from senior Rebecca O'Quinn (Arlington, Mass.) and freshman Mackenzie Boardman (Anchorage, Alaska). The score was knotted, 1-1, after one period of play.

Holy Cross took the lead 7:32 into the second period as Goguen scored her team-high fourth power play and sixth overall goal of the season. Junior Emily Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) and senior Alex Campione (Townsend, Mass.) added assists on the play. The Crusaders held the lead for the remainder of the second period, but the Valiants tied the game just 13 seconds into the third frame.

Sonia Occhionero netted a power play goal to start the third period as Lynsey Schill and Morrison tallied assists on the game-tying score. Just four minutes later, with 15:49 remaining in the game, Michelle Meggiolaro beat Holy Cross sophomore goaltender Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) to give the Valiants the 3-2 advantage. Trenah Stauffer recorded an assist on the play. The Crusaders were unable to rally back and suffered their fifth loss of the season.

Manzanares made 15 saves in the game and moves to 8-3-1 on the season. Manhattanville goaltender Mary Evans made 25 stops and is now 9-6-1 on the year. The Crusaders went one-for-eight on the power play while the Valiants went one-for-four.

The Crusaders will return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 15, at Castleton State at 7:00 p.m.
