Women's Ice Hockey Suffers 4-1 Loss At Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Senior forward Kim Tess-Wanat scored one goal and added two assists for the Polar Bears as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell on the road to Bowdoin on Friday evening, 4-1. The Crusaders move to 7-4-1 on the season while the Polar Bears improve to 4-1-0.

Bowdoin took the 1-0 lead just 2:17 into the game when Madeline Lane received a pass from Tess-Wanat and Ariana Bourque and beat Holy Cross sophomore goaltender Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.). The Crusaders responded 3:19 later when senior Alex Campione (Townsend, Mass.) tied the game, 1-1, on an unassisted goal. The Polar Bears netted the game-winning goal with five minutes remaining in the first stanza when Tess-Wanat and Chelsea MacNeil passed the puck to Stephanie Ludy who lit the lamp.

With the score 2-1, Bowdoin, after one period of play, the Polar Bears increased their lead on the power play with 6:02 remaining in the second period. Rachel Kennedy put the puck in the back of the net off helpers from Kenzie Novak and Emily Tang to give Bowdoin the 3-1 lead going into the second intermission.

Sophomore goaltender Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) entered the game between the pipes for the Crusaders in the third period. Tess-Wanat added the fourth and final goal for Bowdoin with 3:39 remaining in the game to bring the final score to 4-1. MacNeil was credited with the assist on the score.

The Polar Bears outshot the Crusaders 36-13 in the game. Stevenson made 24 saves but suffered the loss and moves to 3-2-1 on the season while Manzanares made eight saves in the third period. Bowdoin net minder Kayla Lessard made 12 saves and is now 2-0-0.

The Crusaders will have five weeks off before traveling to Rutland, Vt. for the Rutland Herald Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 11-12, hosted by Castleton State. Holy Cross will take on Sacred Heart in the first round at 7:00 p.m.
