Women's Ice Hockey Comes Away With 3-1 Win At Wesleyan

Women's Ice Hockey Ties UMass Boston, 2-2

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman forward Kati Goguen (Acton, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate goal in the first period as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie versus UMass Boston on Friday afternoon in ECAC East conference action. The Crusaders are now 2-1-1 on the season while UMass Boston moves to 1-1-1.

Goguen put the Crusaders on the board with just 1:12 remaining in the first, off assists from sophomores Chelsea Monahan (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Rachel Miller (Jackson, Mich.). The score marked the first points of the season for each player as Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead into intermission.

The Beacons tied the game just under five minutes into the second period when Alli Greenberg took a pass from Alyssa Sullivan and beat Crusader sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.). After a holding penalty on UMass Boston with 10:58 remaining in the frame, sophomore Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) put Holy Cross back on top with her first power play goal of the season. Sophomore Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) and senior Alex Campione (Townsend, Mass.) added their first and second helpers of the year, respectively.

With the Crusaders maintaining a 2-1 advantage halfway through the third period, Greenberg netted her second score of the game with 9:28 remaining in regulation to tie the score. Holy Cross outshot the Beacons 30-10 in the final period and overtime, including a 9-0 advantage in the extra stanza. The Crusaders also had two separate five-on-three advantages in overtime but were not able to convert as the the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Holy Cross outshot UMass Boston 48-23 overall in the game. Stevenson finished up with 21 saves in 65 minutes of action to move to 0-1-1 on the young season. Beacons' netminder Casey Schaejbe made 46 saves and is now 1-1-1.

The Crusaders will continue the weekend road trip tomorrow, Nov. 10, at St. Anselm at 3:00 p.m.
