Senior Day video
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team beat ECAC East opponent Southern Maine, 7-2, in its last regular season game at the Hart Center this afternoon. Senior Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) and junior Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) both had a pair of goals in this afternoon's senior day victory. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 16-9-0 overall (13-5-0 ECAC East) and Southern Maine drops to 7-16-2 (5-12-1 ECAC East).
The Crusaders honored seniors Lindsay Atkinson (Westbank, British Columbia), Christina D'Ambrogio (Toronto, Ontario), Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia), Emily Henry (Lumsden, Saskatchewan), Kratchmer, and Colleen Krmpotich (Minneapolis, Minn.) before the game.
Crusader sophomore Alyssa Ruhland (Minneapolis, Minn.) put the first score of the game on the board off a pass from freshman Chelsea Caracciolo (Garden City, N.Y.) at the 11:53 mark in the first period. With just a minute remaining, Kratchmer scored off a pass from Henry to end the period with a 2-0 Crusader lead over the Huskies.
With 16:30 left to play in the second period, a Crusader goal by sophomore Meghan Reynolds (Marion, Mass.), assisted by sophomore Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.), widened the Crusader lead 3-0. Southern Maine's Katie Paradis was able to take advantage of a power play and put the first goal in the net for the Huskies at the 5:13 mark. With three minutes remaining in the period, junior Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) put another Crusader goal in the back of the net, her 22nd this season. A minute and a half later, at the 19:48 mark, Garat scored for the Crusaders to end the period with a 5-1 Holy Cross lead.
At the 17:15 mark in the third period, Garat took advantage of a power play and scored again, her 17th goal this season. The Huskies' Shannon Cronin scored the second and final goal of the afternoon for Southern Maine with 13:13 left to play in the game. At the 12:29 mark, Kratchmer, off an assist from freshman Amanda Gallagher (Park Ridge, Ill), scored her second goal of the game, 18th of the season to conclude a great senior day performance in the 7-2 win.
Three Crusaders, junior Carly Dominick-Sobol (Syracuse, N.Y.), Gallant and Atkinson shared time in net with Dominick-Sobol recording two saves and the win. Gallant had 14 saves and Atkinson recorded eight saves while Southern Maine's Jordan Lee played all 60 minutes and recorded 25 saves.
The Crusaders return to action Feb. 26 at the ECAC Open Tournament, hosted by St. Michael's in Colchester, Vt. Game time will be announced at a later date.
