Women's Hockey Ties Connecticut College 2-2

NEW LONDON, Conn.- Juniors Rebecca O'Quinn (Arlington, Mass.) and Caroline English (Dorchester, Mass.) provided the offense as the Holy Cross women's hockey team skated to a 2-2 overtime tie against Connecticut College Wednesday night. With the draw, the Crusaders move to 9-1-2 overall (6-1-0 ECAC East), while the Camels improve to 1-3-1 (1-3-0 NESCAC).

Holy Cross got on the board first to take the 1-0 lead with O'Quinn's goal at 6:34 of the opening period, assisted by freshman Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.). Connecticut College answered back at 11:18 when senior Jillian Dolliff evened the score at 1-1 with the first of the Camels' two power play goals of the game.

In the second period, Holy Cross accounted for the only goal with 4:30 remaining to take hold of 2-1 lead. Senior Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) skated in from the neutral zone and connected with English for a one-timer in the slot. Senior Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) also assisted on the marker with the 164th point of her career.

Five minutes into the third period, Connecticut College evened the game 2-2 with their second goal via the power play as junior Molly Murphy scored with a shot from the point.

Later on in the third with 12:19 remaining, the Camels had a chance to pull ahead when they were awarded a penalty shot but freshman goalie Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was able to make the stop to preserve the tie.

Garat had a bid to win the game with 56 seconds remaining in the extra session but the Camel net-minder was able to come away the save and the game ended in a draw.

Manzanares finished with 22 saves for the Crusaders and moves her record in net to 3-0-1on the season. Freshman goaltender Kelsie Fralick stopped 25 shots for Connecticut College.

Holy Cross will break over the holidays and return to action on Jan. 14, hosting Salve Regina for a 3:30 p.m. game in Worcester.
