Holy Cross Women's Ice Hockey Blanks St. Michael's, 9-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) scored twice as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated St. Michael's, 9-0, in ECAC East action Sunday afternoon at the Hart Center. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 19-1-1 (14-1-1 ECAC), while St. Michael's falls to 4-14-3 (2-12-3 ECAC).

The Crusaders took advantage of two St. Michael's penalties, scoring two power play goals in the first period. Sophomore Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) scored her 17th goal of the season at the 5:12 mark off an assist from freshman Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) and freshman Kylee McIntosh (Stratford, Ontario.). Junior Kathryn Kelley (Dedham, Mass.) gave Holy Cross the 2-0 lead when she scored at the 9:47 mark. Kelley received a quick pass from junior Kathryn O'Connor (Brookfield, Conn.) in the crease to score the goal.

Holy Cross continued to control the puck, out shooting St. Michael's 11-8 and scoring three goals in the second period. The Crusaders scored their first goal of the second period at the 3:53 mark when freshman Nicola Garat (Princeton, N.J.) scored the third power play goal of the game. Couzin scored her first goal of the afternoon at the 12:51 mark to put Holy Cross up 4-0, while junior Lisa Wilson (Corunna, Ontario) scored at the 15:51 mark to send the Crusaders into the locker room with a 5-0 lead.

The Crusaders continued to find the back of the net, scoring four goals in the third period. McIntosh got the puck past St. Michael's goalkeeper, Alysia Goldman, at the 4:54 mark to score her first career goal. Couzin scored her second goal of the game at the 5:40 mark to put the Crusaders up, 7-0. Kratchmer scored an unassisted goal at the 13:01 mark and Hochkins scored at the 15:46 mark to end the game 9-0.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Atkinson (Westbank, British Columbia) made the start in net for the Crusaders, earning her seventh win (7-0-0) and her second shut out. Goldman took the loss in net for the Purple Knights and falls to 3-12-3. Atkinson had 19 saves, while Goldman had 30. Holy Cross out shot St. Michael's 39-19 and went 4-7 on the man-advantage, while St. Michaels was 0-4.

The Crusaders continue ECAC East action on the road, traveling to Northfield, Vt. for a 7:00 p.m. match up with Norwich on Friday, Feb. 13.
