Shayne Lynch enters his fourth year at Holy Cross as an assistant men's lacrosse coach and defensive coordinator in 2021-22.
Under Lynch’s tutelage in the 2021 season, Chris Conlin earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors, Patriot League All-Academic Team honors and All-New England Second Team laurels. Additionally, Conlin finished the regular season as the NCAA leader in caused turnovers per game with 3.17. The Crusaders posted wins over Sacred Heart and Lafayette during the 2021 campaign, the first under head coach J.L. Reppert.
In 2020, Lynch guided the Crusader defense as the team posted a 4-3 overall record. Through the seven games, the defensive unit ranked 22nd in scoring defense, fourth in caused turnovers (10.43) with Chris Conlin leading the nation (2.86) and Philip Turner ranking fourth (2.50). Lynch also coached the program’s first-ever Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) first round pick, Sean New.
In his first season on The Hill in 2019, Lynch orchestrated a defensive unit that saw its caused turnovers jump from 101 in 2018 to 159 in 2019. Under Lynch’s guidance, goalie Jonathan Tesoro improved his save percentage from 44-percent in 2018 to 51-percent in 2019. Additionally, defender Matt Farrell earned All-Patriot First Team honors.
Lynch comes to Holy Cross after spending the last four seasons as the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) head coach and assistant athletic director. In his first two seasons at NAPS, Lynch recorded a 17-8 record. He focused on player development and coached 24 members of the Navy men’s lacrosse team. Lynch also devoted time to retention and recruitment for the NAPS program, strength and conditioning, and academic coordination.
Prior to his time at NAPS, Lynch also served as an assistant coach for Washington College and 3D Lacrosse New England. At Washington College, Lynch was a part of the staff that took the team to the Division III Final Four and an 18-2 record. Lynch coached Casey McKnight, who earned First Team All-American and Centennial Conference Player of the Year honors in 2014.
Lynch is a 2011 graduate of Wesley College, where he received his bachelor’s degree in sports management. Lynch also holds a master's degree in history from Washington College. At Wesley, Lynch was a four-year letter winner and served as a team captain in the 2009 and 2010 season. Lynch also earned the Dave Reynolds Award in three-consecutive seasons (2007 – 2009) and the Eric Potts Award in 2010.
