WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior John Gelatt of the Holy Cross men's ice hockey team has been chosen as the Hilton Garden Inn Crusader of the Week for the week of Jan. 1 – 7.
Gelatt recorded five points on two goals and three assists over the Crusaders’ three games last week, while blocking two shots and winning 22 faceoffs.
On Tuesday against Merrimack, Gelatt was second on the team in faceoff win percentage with a 57% success rate. Gelatt recorded his first career multi-point games in the weekend set against Atlantic Hockey rival AIC, picking up a goal and an assist on Friday in Springfield, before following up his performance with a goal and two assists on Saturday in Worcester.
In Friday’s game, Gelatt assisted on the first goal of the game that gave the Crusaders the 1-0 lead and scored a goal of his own at the 7:33 mark of the third period to regain the lead at 3-2. In Saturday’s win, Gelatt found the back of the net just over eight minutes into the opening frame to give the Crusaders the early lead. Gelatt added an assist on the second goal, and the eventual game-winning third goal of the game.
The Crusaders (10-9-4, 5-7-3 AHA) will travel to Atlantic Hockey opponent Army for a two-game set on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. in West Point, New York.
