Junior quarterback Matthew Sluka of the Holy Cross football team has been named the Hilton Garden Inn Crusader of the Week for competition from Aug. 29 to Sep. 4.

Sluka totaled 242 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns in the air, while also rushing for 102 yards and another touchdown to pace Holy Cross to a season-opening 31-17 victory over Merrimack on Friday, Sept. 2. Sluka's 242 passing yards marked the second-highest total of his career; Holy Cross had 28 first downs and did not punt once in the contest.

For his efforts, Sluka earned the New England Football Writers’ Week 1 Gold Helmet Award.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, with an FBS matchup set against Buffalo. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
