WORCESTER, Mass.— Senior Gabe Piepergerdes of the men's track and field team has been named the Crusader of the Week, for competition from May 10-16. Piepergerdes claimed a first-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the New England Outdoor Championship.

Piepergerdes crossed the finish line in a time of 52.14, to claim his first-ever gold at the New England Outdoor Championship. The Westfield, Massachusetts native is the first Crusader individual champion at the meet since 2004 when Stephen Virgilio won the decathlon.

Piepergerdes' time of 51.89 in the 400 meter hurdles from the Patriot League Outdoor Championship currently sits at 37th on the NCAA East Preliminary Qualifying List. The top-48 competitors on the list earn an invitation to the NCAA East Preliminary round hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville from May 26-29.
