John Nestel is in his first year as the head women's tennis coach at the College of the Holy Cross in 2022-2023.
Prior to joining the Crusaders, Nestel served as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Bridgewater State from 2013-2015. During the 2013-2014 campaign, he led the Bears’ women’s team to a perfect 16-0 regular season record, the Little East Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. In 2014-2015, the Bridgewater State women had an 8-3 regular season record and advanced to the Little East semifinals.
Previously, Nestel served as the head women's tennis coach at Mount Ida College from 2009-2010. He guided the team to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament appearance in 2010 in just their second year of existence.
Nestel also served as the head varsity coach at Thayer Academy from 2009-2011, coaching two No. 1 players to undefeated seasons as well as an ISL MVP and a Boston Globe MVP.
A USPTR and USPTA certified professional, Nestel is also a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer. He was ranked as the USTA’s No. 1 men’s 35+ player in New England in 2010, in addition to having top 15 national rankings in 35+ singles and doubles. Nestel previously played on the ATP satellite circuit from 1990-1992, qualifying for nine tournaments.
In addition to his tennis experience, Nestel has run his own real estate investment and holdings business since 1996.
A 1990 graduate of Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in political science, Nestel was a four-year member of the Eagles’ varsity tennis team. He helped Boston College win three Big East Conference titles during his time in Chestnut Hill.
