Derrick Light is in his second year as the director of athletics marketing at the College of the Holy Cross in 2020-21. He is responsible for the creation and execution of marketing strategies, promotional plans and advertising campaigns with the goal of revenue generation, fan engagement and community exposure.
Prior to his time at Holy Cross, Light spent three years as the assistant director of marketing at the University of Rhode Island. He helped develop and execute comprehensive marketing and advertising plans for multiple sports, designed to maximize fan engagement and revenue. During the 2018 season, he played a large role in the Rams breaking their single-game football revenue record by nearly 35 percent.
Light previously spent one year as an athletics marketing and fan experience graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University in 2015-2016, where he developed and implemented marketing and promotional plans for the men’s soccer, women’s soccer, gymnastics and baseball teams. He also spent one year as a marketing and promotions assistant at Wofford College in 2014-2015, where he was in charge of marketing and promotional plans for the women’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, golf and tennis programs.
A 2014 graduate of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Light went on to earn a master’s degree in sport management from Northern Illinois in 2017.
